Olam International appoints Sanjiv Misra as director
He brings with him extensive strategic, organisational, operational and capital markets experience that will contribute positively to the Companys businesses in its current stage of development.
Olam International announced the appointment of Sanjiv Misra as non-executive and independent director effective 1 November 2013.
Mr Misra, 53, is chairman of the Asia Pacific Advisory Board for Apollo Management, the global private equity and alternative asset management firm. He is also president of Phoenix Advisers, a boutique advisory and principal investing firm.
Mr. Misra spent eleven years at Citigroup, most recently as head of the Asia Pacific Corporate Bank (APCB) from June 2004 till May 2008. Prior to his appointment to this position, Mr. Misra was the CEO of Citigroups Global Corporate and Investment Banking Group (GCIB) in Singapore and Brunei and Citigroup Country Officer for Singapore. From 1999 to 2003, he was head of Asia Pacific Investment Banking, based in Hong Kong. From January 1997 to March 1999, he served as Head of Equity Capital Markets for Asia-Pacific, according to an Olam International report.
Prior to joining Salomon Brothers in January 1997, Mr. Misra spent over ten years in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs & Co, in New York, Hong Kong and Singapore. He was a member of the Financial Institutions Group in New York from 1986 to 1992. From 1992 to 1994 he was Chief Operating Officer for the Investment Banking Division in Asia Pacific. From 1994 to 1996, he was responsible for establishing and heading that firms business presence in India. This included the establishment of Goldman Sachs joint ventures in India, the firms first such initiatives globally. Mr. Misra represented Goldman Sachs on the boards of directors of both joint venture entities.
Mr. Misra is a member of the Board of Trustees of Singapore Management University (SMU), the SMU Enterprise Board, the Board of Directors of the National University Health System (NUHS) and the Investment Committee of SMU. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Edelweiss Financial Services Limited, a BSE-listed company; Invenio Holdings Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of the Company; OUE Hospitality REIT Management Pte Ltd and OUE Hospitality Trust Management, where he is also Chairman of the Audit Committee. He was formerly also on the boards of Dart Energy Ltd (ASX listed) and Global Investments Limited (SGX listed).
