CrimsonLogic CTO bags Executive of the Year – Computer Software at the SBR Management Excellence Awards 2021
Nicholas Wee is instrumental in driving the company’s product transformation and expanding business opportunities
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the various lockdowns and travel restrictions, it impacted CrimsonLogic’s business operations, making overseas solution delivery challenging, especially for on-site implementation. It also made reaching out to prospective customers extremely difficult.
Despite these challenges, innovation continues, and it is through these trying times that Nicholas Wee, as CrimsonLogic Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Senior Vice President of Product Group, stepped up to address these new norms with his leadership and ingenuity.
Productisation Strategy & Innovation
Helming dual roles, Nicholas oversees the technology and product development strategies across the digital government, trade, legal and document security domains for the company. He led the productisation strategy to transform the CrimsonLogic’s portfolio, moving away from purely building customised solutions for customers while increasing overall profitability.
Through the ongoing product transformation journey, Nicholas oversaw a key innovation that greatly complemented CrimsonLogic’s existing physical document security offerings. Launched in October 2021, DocCipher is a digital document security solution that safeguards digital documents against forgery, counterfeiting, information leakage, and reduces paper usage. This product recently clinched a prestigious IT Software award, beating submissions from larger players.
Nicholas also recognised the importance of incorporating Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (ML) solutions, cloud-native and mobile technologies to update and differentiate the product offerings. For instance, CrimsonLogic’s business licensing platform – Coherence Business Licensing – leverages on natural language processing and ML to recommend licences based on the user’s intent and further suggest relevant ones for consideration. Customers could also use the form builder to configure the product to meet specific needs and enhance user experience.
Delivery & Meeting Customer Expectations
During the height of the pandemic, Nicholas led the engineering and delivery teams to transform existing processes and leverage the cloud for deployments. For customers not on the cloud, on-premise products and solutions were successfully rolled out virtually via Virtual Private Networks (VPN). With a sharper focus on technology, he also led the engineering team to enhance software development practices, improve quality, and reduce development cost.
To expand business prospects, Nicholas worked closely with the sales and marketing teams to launch a whole series of webinars throughout 2020 to engage customers and generate new leads. The webinars attracted hundreds of participants throughout Middle East, Latin America, and the Caribbean regions. As an avid observer of technology trends, Nicholas personally developed the webinar content capitalising on his domain knowledge while serving as the main speaker for the webinars.
Winning the Executive of the Year – Computer Software award at the SBR Management Excellence Awards 2021 is a testimony of Nicholas’ leadership. His personal involvement, professionalism, and ability to manage multiple high-focus portfolios are consequential to CrimsonLogic’s next level of growth.
