myTukar takes home top awards in Malaysia Management Excellence Awards 2022
myTukar wins Employee Engagement of the Year and the Team of the Year awards under the Automotive & Transport Equipment category.
Malaysia’s largest used car ecosystem, myTukar, has bagged top accolades from the Malaysia Management Excellence Awards 2022 – the Employee Engagement of the Year and the Team of the Year under the Automotive & Transport Equipment category. The prestigious awards programme honours Malaysia's most outstanding leaders, innovators, and teams whose initiatives have brought tangible business results, employee engagement, and overall impact to their workforce.
These awards come off the back of key initiatives that its People & Culture team put in place, including a 3-pronged strategy that involves upskilling, engagement, and process digitalisation to bring out one of myTukar’s key missions: to create a great working environment that brings out the best in employees and where they can learn and apply knowledge, explore new paths, and chart growth.
Chok Oi Sin, Director of HR at myTukar said: “As a people-focused organisation, our priority is to create an environment where employees constantly learn, develop, and are empowered to chart their career paths. Coming off a challenging two years brought on by the pandemic, myTukar has wholeheartedly lent its support to the initiatives from the People & Culture team in order to increase employee engagement and productivity. This was truly a team effort from the beginning, and the results in productivity gained in those six months are a testament to that.”
With training and development being a key initiative in the strategy, the People & Culture team implemented standardised training for all employees. The scope included public training sessions open for all employees, on skills like communication and problem-solving. Much time and resources were also invested into training managers to bring out leadership skills in a young cohort of leaders.
Employee engagement across the company was also a touchstone in the strategy, as the team sought to improve communications and appreciation. Day-to-day communications were revamped to ensure that the company’s purpose, goals, and values, followed by initiatives and developments, are effectively communicated to all employees in the 33 branches and 2 refurbishment centres in Malaysia. At the same time, the team put together and implemented a new, comprehensive performance management system that ensured fair rewards and assessment for all employees.
All these efforts have brought about key results: myTukar has seen increased productivity, with revenue per headcount increasing by 14% in Q1 FY2023 (April to June 2022) and 37% in Q2 FY2023 (July to September 2022), as well as engagement score of 70% in a recent employee engagement survey, with 73% of employees saying they “would recommend myTukar as a great place to work.”
Derrick Eng, CEO of myTukar added: “With the positive impact in engagement seen, we will continue to expand on the range of interventions to ensure employees at myTukar feel cared for and supported. Our goal is to create a fun and caring workplace that prioritises employee wellbeing and invests in learning opportunities for myTukarians to improve collaboration, communication, and productivity.”
myTukar will continue to expand on the range of initiatives to ensure employee productivity and growth in the years to come, including further digitalisation of HR processes and a continued emphasis on upskilling, well-being, and engagement of employees.
