Singtel clinches the Telecommunications category trophy at the 2022 SBR National Business Awards
Top accolade for spearheading 5G technology and elevating customers’ experiences.
Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel), a leading communications technology group, was awarded in the Telecommunications category at the recent 2022 SBR National Business Awards.
Singtel earned this prestigious award for spearheading Singapore’s first 5G Standalone (SA) network, giving customers early access to the most advanced 5G connectivity globally. 5G, with its ultra-fast speeds and low latency, enables the next generation of innovations and industry use cases such as remote surgery to autonomous vehicles and accelerates the building of smart cities. Singtel’s 5G network presently covers over 75% of Singapore 5G on the underground northeast train line and has been recognised as the country’s fastest 5G mobile network at 1.2Gbps by Ookla.
Unlocking 5G-powered solutions and experiences
As Singtel accelerates the rollout of 5G islandwide, the group will continue to work with ecosystem partners to develop new solutions and experiences for enterprises and consumers so that they can unlock the full benefits 5G technology has to offer. This involves partnering with organisations such as S.E.A. Aquarium to bring Singapore’s first underwater 5G livestream of the aquarium to its retail stores, as well as the National Gallery Singapore and Esplanade to deliver immersive cultural and art experiences powered by 5G.
Singtel has also introduced data pass options for consumers to use 5G without worrying about data. They can watch all their favourite shows, game or livestream with a 24-hour pass, or make video calls on Zoom and Microsoft Teams with a productivity pass. This, coupled with Samsung devices such as DeX, allows customers to set up virtual workstations easily as they work remotely. Singtel has seen a very positive adoption of 5G mobile plans since its launch.
Co-creating 5G solutions and building a synergistic ecosystem
Singtel has been working closely with the public sector and enterprises to bring 5G to life. For example, the 5G@Sentosa testbed launched last year by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), the Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), and Singtel, unveiled a whole host of public sector 5G use case trials to benefit the built environment, transport, and tourism industries.
Some of these trials currently underway include using fully autonomous robots and drones to track and inspect sites remotely with the Building Construction Authority, tele-operating autonomous vehicles for road-cleaning with the National Environment Agency, and infrastructure-light 5G leisure experiences for visitors to Sentosa with the Singapore Tourism Board.
Singtel also partnered with Surbana Jurong to co-create smart city solutions and digital twins focused on smart and sustainable integrated facilities management, as well as with Hyundai Motor Corp for advanced manufacturing use cases and electric vehicle connectivity.
As a 5G leader, Singtel provides the necessary infrastructure for 5G innovation and growth. Its Centre of Digital Excellence (CODE) and the 5G Garage at Singapore Polytechnic are designed to be sandboxes for enterprises and ecosystem partners to ideate, co-create and test joint 5G services and solutions. The company also developed GENIE, the industry’s first portable 5G platform allowing enterprises to trial use cases securely in their own premises.
By taking the lead in creating the right platforms and testbeds for enterprises to innovate with 5G and 5G-powered applications like MEC, Singtel enables businesses to focus their resources and attention on what matters most – driving innovation and business growth.
