SquareX Makes Waves in the Browser Security Space
Browser-native security solutions are addressing user needs that have been overlooked by traditional solutions for too long.
Over the past two decades, consumer cybersecurity technology has remained stagnant, with the focus still on antivirus, anti-malware, and VPN technologies. Whilst antivirus solutions were originally effective against file-based threats, modern attackers often circumvent these systems, causing widespread problems like ransomware, spyware, and other targeted cyber threats.
Traditional antivirus methods, based on probabilistic detection, fall short of offering comprehensive protection against these threats. Likewise, VPNs and tracker blockers, whilst addressing privacy, do not adequately meet broader security needs, highlighting the gap in solutions that cater to both privacy and security for individuals.
Despite there being advancements in enterprise security, translating these to consumer use is challenging due to their complexity and the need for dedicated management teams. SquareX addresses this by being user-friendly and transparent, blocking threats without compromising productivity.
As a browser-based security product, SquareX protects user devices, data, and files. It uses isolation technology for secure browsing and file viewing via its features like the Disposable Browser and Disposable File Viewer. As a user opens a link or a file using either of the two features, a completely isolated environment is created for the user to safely view the site or file. Even if the website is malicious or the file that the user opens has macros hidden in it, it wouldn’t be able to impact the user’s device, providing them a deterministic way to be secure. This unique approach is essential for tackling modern digital threats effectively.
After being welcomed by over 150,000 users in just 8 months of launching the consumer version of the product, the company is now geared to unveil the enterprise edition at one of the top security conferences, RSA, in May 2024.
“The browser is the most used application today in the enterprise and unfortunately also the gateway for most attacks. Our product allows enterprises to detect, mitigate and threat-hunt web attacks happening on their user’s browsers. For individuals, we have given out a free extension to protect themselves and their family,” Vivek Ramachandran, founder and CEO of SquareX, told us.
The milestones achieved by SquareX have been acknowledged by the SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2024, with the company bagging the Cybersecurity—Internet/New Media category win.
The prestigious awards programme recognises exceptional companies in Singapore that are riding the digital disruption wave and leading the technological revolution and digital journeys of their respective industries.
