DSM's initiative wins in the Animal Care category at the Asian Export Awards 2020
The ‘We Make It Possible’ initiative aims to transform the animal protein production by creating sustainable solutions.
The Asian Export Award 2020 is proud to award its Animal Care (Large Corporate) award to DSM Nutritional Products (Thailand) for the company’s work in advancing the sustainable production of animal protein as a part of the ‘We Make It Possible’ initiative. With this strategic initiative, the company aims to lead a robust and achievable transformation in animal protein production, creating solutions that will foster a brighter future.
Dr. Mongkol Kaewsutas, General Manager, DSM Nutritional Products Thailand and Indochina shared that sustainability is in the company’s DNA and ‘We Make it Possible’ is testament to the company’s commitment towards scalable solutions that involve the participation of the entire food supply chain.
“DSM has a long and rich heritage in creating sustainable solutions, and it is on this basis that we operate as a purpose-led company. There is an urgent need to reduce the footprint of animal farming and ‘We Make it Possible’ is our answer to the world’s growing population and increasing demand for animal protein,” said Dr. Kaewsutas.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has shown just how fragile our food systems are and the urgent change that needs to take place for a more sustainable future. Winning The Asia Export Awards for ‘We Make it Possible’ is proof of the growing concern and recognition for science-based, scalable solutions for a brighter world.”
Dr. Peter Fisher, Regional Vice President, Animal Nutrition and Health, APAC said ‘We Make it Possible’ comes after many years of innovation and investment to scientific solutions aimed at providing the solutions long affecting the animal production industry.
“‘We Make it Possible’ seeks to accelerate progress towards a more sustainable future by creating solutions which target the growing animal production industry – a significant contributor towards greenhouse gas emissions. The Asia Pacific is one of the largest producers and consumers of animal protein, we will continue to create solutions that can make animal farming more sustainable,” said Dr. Fisher.
Aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 2, 3, 12, 13, and 14, the ‘We Make it Possible’ initiative is driven by six sustainability platforms facing the animal husbandry industry, namely:
- Improving the lifetime performance of farm animals
- Improving the quality of food (i.e. meat, fish, milk, eggs), while reducing food loss and waste
- Reducing emissions from livestock
- Making efficient use of natural resources
- Reducing the reliance on marine resources
- Helping tackle anti-microbial resistance
DSM maintains a strong presence in Thailand with partnerships with locally-based agencies such as GAIN, intent on advancing a sustainable future. In addition to local partnerships, DSM works with NGOs like the UN World Food Programme; World Bank Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition; Ellen McArthur Foundation; amongst others to advance brighter futures for all.
