EZ-Link wins in two categories at SBR's Technology Excellence Awards
EZ-Link is doing its part to contribute towards Singapore’s goal of becoming an e-payments society.
The services of EZ-Link Pte Ltd are essential aspects of life in Singapore, so it is only fitting that the company’s accomplishments be recognised at the SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2020. This year, EZ-Link was honoured in two categories.
The award in the Digital - Business Services category acknowledges the success of EZ-Pay, the first post-paid cardless payment service, which provides convenience to motorists by ensuring sufficient funds for electronic road pricing (ERP) and carpark charges.
Launched in 2016, EZ-Pay only involves a one-time free sign-up. Drivers can then use the application to pay for fees at ERP gantries and selected carparks. The fees are charged directly to the users’ bank cards and transactions can be tracked through EZ-Link’s app or website.
Furthermore, the company also introduced EZ-Pay Corporate for organisations with vehicle fleets. The service allows ERP payments for multiple vehicles to be charged directly to a DBS or Citi corporate credit card without subscription or registration fees.
Having eliminated the need to top up store-value cards, this innovation makes drivers’ work easier. As a result, the operational efficiencies of companies in the services, manufacturing, and logistics industries have been greatly improved. So far, this service has been used by a broad segment of motorists, with over 10,000 fleets of vehicles, including 6,000 fleets of public buses, for spending on ERP, parking, and toll charges.
In the Mobile - Transportation category, the award highlights the success of the EZ-Link App in enhancing user experience through various products and services, such as topping up EZ-Link cards, earning rewards, and tracking transactions. Their user base spans a majority of the country’s population with varying degrees of knowledge in the use of technology.
EZ-Link’s key achievements include more than 1 million downloads with minimal advertising, which enables the company to support Singapore’s e-payment drive.
Based on combined iOS and Google Play downloads, the EZ-Link app is ranked as one of the top e-wallet apps in the country. As of March 2020, it is second in the Top Free Travel and Local app ranking list on Google Play Store and third in the Travel ranking list on the Apple App Store.
In deploying this app, EZ-Link has employed continual feedback loops and user-focused design thinking. Periodic iterations have been rolled out based on a “minimum viable product approach.”
Moreover, the app has transformed EZ-Link from a conventional card-based business into a dynamic digital enterprise, whilst reinforcing the company’s ability to address various technical and cultural concerns.
With this app, EZ-Link has been able to strengthen its business pillars: enhancing customer service and engagement, opening up partnership possibilities, and increasing productivity and cost savings.
The Technology Excellence Awards, presented by Singapore Business Review, was held via video conferencing throughout the first and third week of June.
This year’s nominations were judged by a panel consisting of Daryl Pereira, Head of Cyber at KPMG; Cheang Wai Keat, Head of Advisory Services in Singapore and ASEAN Technology Consulting Leader at Ernst & Young; Chin Chee Choon, Advisory Leader and Assurance Director at Nexia TS; Rizwi Wun, Partner, Acting Head of Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group at RHTLaw Asia; Carolyn Chin-Parry, Managing Director and Digital Accelerator Leader at PwC.
