IGG wins SBR National Business Awards for Internet / New Media
Its Lords Mobile strategy game maintains its popularity and sets a new revenue record in 2020.
IGG is a leading mobile games developer and publisher with global headquarters in Singapore, and offices in the US, China, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Belarus, the Philippines, the UAE, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, Italy, and Spain. The company has been ranked among the Top 52 publishers worldwide for seven consecutive years by independent mobile analytics platform App Annie.
This year, the company’s Lords Mobile video game is celebrating its fifth anniversary. In an industry where the average lifespan of a game is three months, Lords Mobile not only maintained its popularity among gamers for five years but also set a new revenue record in 2020.
Launched in March 2016 as IGG’s first cross-platform, multi-language, real-time strategy game designed for global gamers, Lords Mobile combines real-time war strategy, role-playing, and world-building features in one game. Players are required to create their own base, build an army, upgrade their troops and defences, and attack enemy bases, seize enemy resources and capture their leaders.
To give gamers a sense of grandeur while playing the game, IGG worked with renowned Hollywood composer Klaus Badelt (of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl fame) to compose the “Champion’s Overture” for the game, which was recorded in AIR Studios by the London Symphony Orchestra in 2018.
This year will also see the first-ever IP collaboration with popular Japanese manga/anime/game franchise Saint Seiya. This time-limited collaboration was launched in April 2021.
The game’s longevity and enduring popularity can be attributed to its innovative and compelling gameplay, which has won multiple industry awards and accolades. More importantly, frequent and regular content and feature updates and gameplay mechanics have maintained its competitiveness even with the release of newer games in the market. Almost every month, new content or feature updates are released, greatly enhancing the user experience and helping the game retain its appeal.
Lords Mobile is a war strategy game where millions of gamers in different time zones from around the world play concurrently (in real-time) against each other, as individuals and also as members of guilds based in different kingdoms. Gamers wage war to dominate their kingdom, and also against rival kingdoms. They can communicate with fellow guild members in their own (different) languages with the help of a built-in translator via an in-game chat system. The game is free-to-play—gamers can play as much as they like without spending any money—with optional in-game purchases that will enhance the gameplay experience or reduce the time needed to level up.
The game’s revenue has reached over US$2.3 billion worldwide since 2016 and set a new monthly grossing record of US$66 million in December 2020. It is available in 20 languages, has 370 million registered users, and 13.7 million monthly active users.
