INOVAANTAGE PTE LTD receives SBR's Tech Award for Software - Energy

The company successfully helped a Southeast Asian power company optimise its voltage variation for efficient grid distribution and operation.

INOVAANTAGE PTE LTD has been selected to receive the TEA award for the Software - Energy category.

INOVAANTAGE is an IT & OT Solution and Service provider for Telecommunications, Transportations and Utilities that supports many mission-critical projects and programs. As a data driven enterprise, they help enterprises and businesses navigate their digital transformation thus improving organizational performance. Since inception, it has come a long way and have managed to cement its position as one of the most elite and revolutionary names in the IT/OT landscape. With its diversified suite of products and services, it has created and delivered unsurpassed value to our customers in the form of tailor-made, tech-powered, innovative solutions that are several notches above the ordinary. Currently present in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, and UK, it is continuously expanding global footprint and growing clientele.

The company was selected and mandated by one of the largest Southeast Asian power companies to carry out a full-fledged pilot R&D project to deploy specialized software towards achieving Volt-Var Optimisation (VVO).

Voltage optimisation remains a major challenge for power generation and distribution companies everywhere. Conventional solutions are in most cases isolated and cannot be coordinated across the entire network.

The challenge that many of these companies face is the magnitude of voltages that vary considerably between the source of power generation and the final consumer. These fluctuations can cause a range of problems, from temporary malfunctioning to decreased working life of appliances and permanent failure. Besides this, the voltage fluctuations make power delivery inefficient. This also leads to power consumption that can be costly for the end-user.

Traditional methods to optimise voltage are not ineffective, but they have their limitations when it comes to cost and controls. Considering the big demand for electricity, it is evident that even a small percentage of power-saving can lead to massive financial gains and returns.

INOVAANTAGE created a software designed to detect voltage fluctuations and optimise the number of consumers who can be best served by that range. In case of a voltage surplus, the software will immediately bring the voltage down to the required range.

When it detects a voltage loss at, say, a feeder unit, the software will map out the magnitude of the loss. Next, it will figure out how many consumers can be served with the ideal voltage. In other words, it will ensure the supply of the ideal voltage range to a proportionately fewer number of consumers. Because the data exchange happens in real-time, other supply systems within the same grid will be evaluated for surplus voltage. That surplus voltage is diverted to the remaining consumers.

Essentially, the software carried out load-balancing so it serves the desired range of voltage to all consumers. This allowed their client to achieve the following:

Energy efficiency - By monitoring and controlling voltage levels, VVO ensures efficient usage of energy, something vital for the rapidly industrialising world and growing demands.
Financial savings - Equipment operating at ideal voltages consume only as much energy as is required, resulting in lowered costs for the customers and the network.
Demand reduction - Without sacrificing actual requirements, the drop in losses leads to a reduction in gross demand. As a result, power companies need not spend money in additional power generation capacities.

The results clearly showed it had been fully successful. Extremely encouraged by the positive outcomes, the client is now considering rolling out an identical solution across the nation.
