RenewFibre Asia Pte Ltd bags Designed in Singapore Award for Materials and Construction
Their XTD XstrawDinary Natural Fibre Board, which can be used to furnish homes and offices, addresses the pressing climate crisis by reducing greenhouse gasses.
Singapore Business Review acknowledged groundbreaking products that have proven to be industry trailblazers in the recently concluded Designed in Singapore Awards.
Back on its third year to laud outstanding products manufactured and conceptualised in the Lion City, this year's awards programme recognised companies who brought pride to Singaporean innovation and craftsmanship.
Using their technology to combat climate change, RenewFibre Asia Pte Ltd bagged the Designed in Singapore Award for materials and construction. Products under the company’s XTD brand, XstrawDinary Sustainable Innovation, can help reduce 1.695 tonnes of greenhouse gasses per cubic meter, which is equivalent to planting 16 trees.
According to the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5oC, which was published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, humanity only has 10 years left to reduce the carbon dioxide emission by 45%.
This imminent issue pushed RenewFibre Asia to develop and equip their strawboards with extraordinary capabilities that can contribute to the combat against the climate crisis.
Made from up to 95% agricultural fibre with no formaldehyde additive, the company’s innovative strawboard shows the brand’s reputation for durability, cost, comfort and appearance whilst providing customers with a green solution for a variety of applications that even go beyond packaging.
The XTD products can be used for flooring, deco walls, doors, ceilings, tables, chairs and other furnishing related projects.
Since XTD products are mostly composed of straw, deforestation and the need for agricultural straw burning are both eliminated.
Besides providing an eco-friendly alternative to customers, XTD products possess high density which amounts to up to 1200 kilograms per cubic metre. This is possible thanks to an innovative process that involves extreme heat and pressure, which bind the fibre on the natural strawboard.
Such density provides better sound and heat insulation. It also makes the products fire retardant, moist resistant, and anti-static. Additionally, the products also possess commendable plasticity and flexibility and can also absorb printing ink seamlessly, which makes it the ideal candidate for surface treatments.
It is also non-susceptible to wood pests, including termites, making the strawboard a fitting and sustainable alternative to wood.
XTD products also give customers autonomy to express their taste in design and colors customisation. They can select from dozens of colors, which they can combine to create millions of unique patterns for flooring, furniture and virtually anything from ceiling to floor and wall to wall.
Advocating for sustainable development, RenewFibre Asia participates in events like DOMOTEX 2019, DBS Marina Regatta 2019, and the 25th China International Furniture Expo. They also collaborate with school initiatives and universities, such as NANOxARCH and Nanyang Polytechnic.
Attributing the beginning of their voyage when the company started offering innovative green logistics solutions to MNC companies, RenewFibre Asia Pte Ltd remained dedicated in their contribution on the efforts to stop climate change.
In 2019, the company received certification from Singapore Green Building Council for their Natural Fibre Board products in floor finishes, ceiling board, and panel board. Recently, they also snagged the German Design Award 2020 for their Natural Fibre Flooring.
They also took home the People’s Choice Award for SG Mark 2019. In 2018, they garnered plenty of awards, including the IDEAT Future Award 2018, the Packaging Excellence Award from the World Packaging Organisation, the Stars Award for Singapore Packaging, the Singapore Environmental Achievement Award, the Asia Packaging Award and the World Packaging Award, which they also received in 2017.
The Made in Singapore and Designed in Singapore Awards, presented by Singapore Business Review, was held on 28 November 2019 at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore.
This year’s winners were judged by Richard Loi, Partner and SEA Consumer & Industrial Products Industry Audit & Assurance Leader at Deloitte & Touche LLP; Toh Kim Teck, Assurance Partner at Foo Kon Tan LLP; Henry Tan, Managing Director at NEXIA TS; and Joshua Ong, Managing Partner at Baker Tilly.
