SeaSolutions hailed at the Singapore Business Review International Business Awards
The maritime solutions provider was recognized for co-creating a rest and work management solution.
Leading provider of specialized maritime IT solutions and services SeaSolutions raised the trophy in the Shipping category at the recently held Singapore Business Review’s International Business Awards 2020. The awards programme honours the most outstanding projects and innovative best practices amongst international businesses based in Singapore.
The company was recognized for their collaborative and innovative efforts along with Teekay Tankers co-creating the next generation rest and work management solution REST MANAGER.
SeaSolutions said that the new Fatigue Management solution enables better decision making on board vessels in real time, eliminates uncertainties regarding current and future compliance status and seamlessly registers biometric data records, which are automatically stored without risks of errors / manipulation.
Teekay Tankers Deputy Head of Ship Management, Capt. Mukund Sharma said that the company has worked closely with SeaSolutions in co-creating the REST MANAGER solution which includes integrated face recognition features and provides enhanced user interface to deliver a proactive compliance experience. “The application is now running on 48 of our vessels, giving unprecedented insights and advantages to the crew on board,” he added.
One of the serious pain-points for crews on board vessels, as well as shore side organisations supporting global fleets is how to possibly avoid fatigue for the crew members, stay compliant and at same time manage the rest and work hours efficiently for the crew members on board.
Therefore, SeaSolutions and Teekay Tankers jointly pursued a new approach: Instead of relying on manual data entries in arrears, REST MANAGER is using face recognition technology to make it easy for seafarers to register work and rest hour data as it happens. The new onboard app is deployed on dedicated Android tablets installed at strategic locations to capture live data; as each crew member checks in and out upon starting and stopping their work accordingly.
As a result the REST MANAGER solution offers a holistic view of the rest hours status on board as it continually and systematically updates the live work and rest hour data; constantly checking for Rest Hour compliance in a 5-minute real time cycle.
A two hours past - and fourteen hours view ahead (in ships time) enables REST MANAGER to proactively warn of potential non-conformances in advance for optimal planning onboard. Visual warnings on Smart TV and computers, as well as email alerts are also configured. Further, REST MANAGER indicates safe call out time for the crew to address unforeseen events or alarms. Backup systems allowing for continued registration of work and rest hours ensures operation at all times.
A shore side dashboard and automated features for sending detailed rest/work data registrations from each vessel allows superintendents and 3rd party stakeholders to leverage the insights and transparency provided across the fleet as well.
