ServerFreak Technologies Sdn Bhd bags Infrastructure Technology Award for IT Services
The company converted traditional server architecture into cloud for SEGi University.
Web hosting solutions specialist ServerFreak Technologies took home the Infrastructure Technology - IT Services trophy at the recently concluded Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards.
The inaugural awards event honours enterprises that take risks and lead the charge in developing groundbreaking projects, digital services, reimagined strategies, and technological initiatives. Winners were judged on the basis of uniqueness and innovation, effectiveness and impact, and dynamism.
When ServerFreak was tapped by SEGi University to provide a private cloud solution, the university was managing too many traditional servers, which given the circumstances would be very time consuming and costly since most if not all of the servers were almost obsolete.
“SEGi University contacted us to propose them on a private cloud solution since they have to manage too many traditional servers and it is too time-consuming for them and some of the servers are too old and costly. We proposed a proper private cloud solution and managing the entire infrastructure for them. Now, 80% of the entire group's IT infrastructure is migrated to this private cloud,” said Sam Lee, CEO at ServerFreak Technologies.
Despite the university’s confidence on ServerFreak’s expertise, this did not mean that the whole migration process would be smooth sailing; the company still hit some technical issues.
“When the project started, we eventually hit some issues. For example, data compatibility after the migration due to it was migrated from old servers,” Lee added.
Having to deal with other issues such as network latency, the company utilised its knowledge and tools to mitigate every challenge that stood in their way and stick to the agreed time frame, converting the old servers properly and making them run normally.
“Because their previous network was slow, we have to use different tools to compress the data while migrating the server. With all these challenges, we still managed to migrate the entire infra within 30 days,” Lee noted.
After ServerFreak upgraded the entire architecture, SEGi’s servers are now fully secured in their own private cloud, including an anti-DDOS protection network.
The university saved at least 30% in server running costs after conversion and was able to scale up their server resources easily and share the resources amongst other servers.
ServerFreak provides web hosting solutions for companies and individuals to achieve operational, business or individual success on the internet. The company’s servers are located in first-class data centres engineered to avoid any single point of failure in connectivity, power, heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
