SOCOE snags e-Commerce - Business Services award at Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2019

The company’s eWanita project is the Sarawak Government’s digital economy initiative under the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).

Technology development firm SOCOE was lauded for its efforts in e-commerce and business services at the recently concluded Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards.

The inaugural awards event honours enterprises that take risks and lead the charge in developing groundbreaking projects, digital services, reimagined strategies, and technological initiatives.

Developing e-commerce as a path towards greater empowerment in Malaysia, SOCOE launched eWanita to enable women’s businesses to connect to one another, thereby promoting collaboration, social participation, and empowerment, with the primary objective of “digitally transforming the women of Sarawak” by bringing them together in one interactive online community.

The pioneering platform in collaboration with the government Department of Women and Family Sarawak also known as Jabatan Wanita dan Keluarga Sarawak (JWKS) gives women opportunities to collaborate online through business matchmaking, which leads to effective product marketing and enterprise growth.

eWanita’s Helpline app serves as a communication tool where women in distress can obtain assistance from the relevant authorities; aligned with the Ministry’s theme on safety of women “in good hands.”

Meanwhile, integrated app ePreneurs is an online marketplace that promotes sustainable growth through the “clicks-and-mortar” model, which allows improvement in women’s quality of life and economic contribution by reducing gaps in the access to digital resources. Women who undergo training with the Wisma Wanita Training Centre (WWTC) will be provided the direction of sustainability in their ventures.

In line with the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy, eWanita helps women obtain new trade skills and adapt to the demands of a technologically advanced marketplace through training sessions in digital trade skills.

“eWanita is a useful tool that enables effective collaborations with various NGOs such as Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak, Swinburne University of Technology under the Sarawak Women Aspiring Group (SWAG) initiative, and other institutions,” according to the Sam Wong (JW) the CEO of SOCOE.

By using eWanita, a single mother was able to promote her online business and subsequently secured a two-year contract with a television production house.

The eWanita technology is versatile and dynamic, which makes it suitable for the requirements of entrepreneurs in a fast-changing world. Its seamless integration with new technologies is made possible by SOCOE’s IR 4.0 back-end engine system.

The app includes the flexible integration of existing technology such as SarawakID and SarawakPay, which simplifies users’ daily transactions and redefines the way people live and work.

SOCOE is a technology development firm with a strong appreciation for business. Its other services include building customized solutions, onboarding through an effective training and consultation package for new customers and users, migration to the latest technological solutions, specialist-led workshops, and strategic consultancy to overcome technical roadblocks and integrate data sources and systems.

By developing the eWanita platform, SOCOE has taken a crucial step in developing e-commerce as a path towards greater women’s empowerment in Sarawak, Malaysia and beyond.
