Stamford American International School gains Singapore Business Review National Business Awards for Education

The school was recognized for developing its ecological sustainability.

Stamford American International School has secured the Singapore Business Review's National Business Awards for Education. The awards programme aims to honour exceptional local businesses in Singapore and give recognition to their outstanding initiatives.

Home to students from over 70 nationalities and an academic body of more than 30 countries, Stamford American International School (SAIS) is one of the top international schools in Singapore, known for its international-mindedness and inclusivity. It is fully accredited by the IB World School, the Western Association Schools and Colleges (WASC), as well as the Council of International Schools (CIS).

At the beginning of 2020, SAIS had spearheaded an innovative Rare Tree Forest initiative, in collaboration with Elango Velautham, Deputy Director at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

The Rare Tree Forest was an initiative that had taken root in the grade 9 science curriculum and the field studies program and had grown to become a whole school project in creating ecological sustainability at Stamford.

Cognita Asia CEO Michael Drake, Superintendent of Stamford American International School Dr. Eric Sands, and Stamford Division Principals gathered on 31 January at the Woodleigh campus to inaugurate the new Rare Tree Forest site by planting endangered species of trees indigenous to the region and Singapore.

SAIS boasts that its student-inspired and student-led project has inspiring students to create their unique future, raised awareness of endangered trees, as well as nurtured a living classroom and creating a sustainable future.

Furthermore, SAIS plans to develop its Rare Tree Forest nursery and enhance the green spaces at Stamford, which will be used to carry out experiments, research, and hopefully submit articles to science journals on our findings from our different research projects.

In addition to these, SAIS introduces another initiative to cultivate and grow a Food Forest, where they will begin to grow their own fruit, vegetables and herbs. The school said this will be used to potentially be able to give food back to society and help the school develop further initiatives in their ecological literacy.

As an IB school, SAIS plans to continue on developing creative and critical thinkers who can use their problem-solving skills to take on new information and make decisions for a positive impact in the world.

SAIS aims for them to bring the environment and education together within the community to reach common goals such as awareness, sustainability, and action leading to lasting change globally.

Moreover, SAIS is the first and only school in Singapore to offer the full International Baccalaureate (IB) and American Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

Unique to Stamford American, each student graduates with a US High School Diploma alongside the opportunity to pursue the IB or AP Diploma. Facilitated by the US-based College Board, the students enjoy the flexibility of choosing from over 40 IB and over 20 AP courses which can add to their university credits.
