Schneider Electric to launch EcoStruxure™ Automation Expert in Singapore, enabling hardware-agnostic automation system design
- The hardware-agnostic automation system design allows users to mix and match hardware from different vendors and automating them with a single software platform.
- This platform helps business reduce engineering hours required to automate their hardware by 68% compared to current automation systems.
Singapore, November 23, 2021 –Initially announced on November 2020, Schneider Electric is excited to launch the world’s first universal automation offer, based on the IEC61499 standard for interoperability and portability, in Singapore. Today’s demands for greater manufacturing flexibility and productivity means that industry needs IT solutions that can help them implement automated systems.
However, businesses often find themselves at a roadblock when trying to automate hardware across different vendors as they often need to use the proprietary software for each vendor, which can result in increased cost and development time. Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Automation Expert allows users to work around that restriction by leveraging on the IEC 61499 standard, creating a truly universal automation system.
A report from the ARC Advisory Group (ARC) finds that, “a standardized automation system layer would be immensely valuable in economic terms.” For example, end-users across industry spend $20-30 billion each year to service the installed base. A substantial part of that spending could be avoided through a standardized automation layer, saving valuable engineering time by eliminating vendor lock-in and opening the door to automation innovation.
Another study, A Quantitative Comparison of Digitized Industrial Automation Systems, found that EcoStruxure Automation Expert saved 68% of engineering hours in compared to current automation engineering systems –savings that ARC believes would be worth several billion dollars annually if it could be applied across the installed base of industrial automation. Savings are likely to be even more dramatic throughout the full plant lifecycle, according to the report.
“At Schneider Electric, we have always believed in interoperability to leverage the power of IoT in Industry 4.0. We believe that the time is right for a bold move in industrial automation and would like to call on industrial users, vendors, OEMs, systems integrators and EPCs across the industry to embrace universal automation and IEC 61499.” said, Eugene Quah, Business Vice President, Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei, Schneider Electric.
Schneider Electric is also committed to working with partners such as Precision Motion Control Pte. Ltd.(PMC), to help provide their clients with customized solutions for their needs. At this year’s Industrial Transformation ASIA-PACIFIC (ITAP), Schneider Electric will be providing free sizing reports to customers who visit the PMC booth while providing our knowledge and technical expertise.
