
1 in 5 firms in the services sector pessimistic
More than half sees no change at all in the next six months.
A weighted 13% of firms in the services sector is optimistic about the business conditions for Oct2016-Mar2017, while a weighted 21% of firms foresees slower business outlook, data from the Department of Statistics show.
The majoriry of firms (weighted 66%) anticiapate the level of business activity to remain the same.
A net weighted balance of 8% of firms in the services sector expects less favourable business conditions for the period of Oct 2016-March 2017 compared with Apr-Sept 2016. This is less optimistic compared to the net weighted balance of -6% registered in the previous quarter's survey (i.e. July-Dec 2016) and that of the same period last year (i.e. Oct2015-Mar2016).
Within the services industry, the retail trade and food & beverage services industries are among those which foresee more favourable conditions for the study period. On the other hand, the real estate, transport & storage and wholesale trade industries are less optimistic in their business outlook
