Here's what you need to know this tax season 2017

SingPass 2FA is required to file your Income Tax.

The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) has introduced several key features to enhance the filing experience this Income Tax Filing Season, which runs from 1 March to 18 April 2017.

Here's more from IRAS:

Allow 7 to 10 working days to set up your SingPass 2-Step Verification (2FA)
Digital government transactions involving sensitive data, such as filing tax returns or viewing of tax bills (Notice of Assessment), require SingPass 2FA now. All taxpayers should register and activate their SingPass 2FA by February 2017, so that they can be ready to file their taxes from March 2017.

  • If you have forgotten your SingPass password, you can reset the password online at www.singpass.gov.sg.
  • For step-by-step guidance on how to set up 2FA, refer to Video Guides at www.singpass.gov.sg.
  • If you have any questions on SingPass 2FA, refer to FAQs at www.singpass.gov.sg.

File your taxes on your smartphone from 1 Mar to 18 Apr 2017
This year, you can enjoy the convenience of filing on-the-go via your smartphone. We have also improved myTax Portal with intuitive navigation, and new features such as quick overview of tax filing status and summary of tax accounts, as well as shortcuts to popular e-Services. Do file your taxes early in March 2017 to avoid the last-minute rush, or late payment penalties.

50,000 e-Filers will receive the tax bill immediately upon filing taxes
A pilot group of 50,000 e-Filers (with an Assessable Income of less than or equal to $40,000) will receive their finalised tax bill (Notice of Assessment) immediately upon filing their tax returns this year. Under this pilot, e-Filers can enjoy greater certainty and know their tax payable for the Year of Assessment (YA) immediately. For taxpayers on the GIRO payment scheme, their GIRO instalment payment will be based on their actual tax payments instead of a provisional instalment plan, giving them greater certainty on their tax payments. IRAS aims to scale up this service initiative progressively.

This is an extension of IRAS’ initiative last year for 1.45 million taxpayers on the NoFiling Service (NFS) scheme, where taxpayers who were not required to file could preview their tax bills and request early assessments if they had no changes to their pre-filled income and relief claims.

30,000 partnerships invited to file early by 26 Feb 2017
Partnerships can now file their business income (Form P) earlier, starting from as early as 1 Feb 2017 this YA. For partnerships who file their business income (Form P) by 26 February 2017, the partners can enjoy the convenience of having their share of partnership income pre-filled in their individual income tax returns (Form B) by IRAS. The precedent partner also does not need to separately inform the respective partners of their share of the partnership income.
