MAS to issue new set of commemorative coins
In line with Singapore’s celebration of 45 years of independence, MAS will release a new set of coins to be sold by The Singapore Mint.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on Wednesday launches the Singapore 45 Years of Independence Commemorative Coins. The coins will be issued on 6 August 2010 to be sold by The Singapore Mint, according to an announcement from MAS.
MAS said the coin design draws inspiration from the 2010 National Day Parade theme, ‘Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag’. At the centre of the coin is a group of Singaporeans rejoicing at the Padang, the venue for this year’s National Day celebrations. Flanking the group of Singaporeans on the left is the logo for this year’s National Day theme while to the right is an artistic perspective of the City Hall.
The Silver Proof Colour Coin comes in an innovative rectangular shape – the first of its kind in Singapore, said MAS.
The obverse of the coin bears the Singapore Arms with the year-date 2010.
5,000 pieces of $5 Silver Proof Colour Coin and 6,000 pieces of $2 Cupro-Nickel Proof-Like Colour Coin will be released. Meanwhile, a 2-in-1 Coin Set consists of a $5 Silver Proof Colour Coin and a $2 Cupro-Nickel Proof-Like Colour Coin will be released with a mintage of 2,010 sets.
