Build digital infrastructure sustainably: National Development Minister
Speaking atthe opening of Digital Realty's new data center, Desmond Lee stressed the importance of environmental sustainability.
Digital infrastructure in Singapore should be built with environmental sustainability in mind, said Minister for National Development Desmond Lee during the opening of Digital Realty's SIN12 data centre. "As the digital economy continues to grow, it is important to ensure that our digital infrastructure is as environmentally sustainable as possible," Lee said.
He commended Digital Realty, which recently opened its third data centre in the Lion City, one of the largest in the country. The Digital Loyang II, or SIN12, is a Platinum BCA Green Mark certified facility.
"Smart, resilient and sustainable buildings like SIN12 are what we are actively encouraging in Singapore. This is part of our ongoing efforts to transform our Built Environment sector," Lee said.
Experiences with COVID-19 has led to a pursuit of a " smart, sustainable and resilient construction industry," he added.
With the Singapore Green Building Masterplan, the city state aims to target an 80% greening of existing buildings, an 80% Super Low Energy target for new buildings, and an 80% improvement in energy efficiency for best-in-class buildings by 2030.
