
Cargo volume at Port of Singapore hits 13-month high in May
Container throughput rose to 2.67 million TEUs.
The Port of Singapore reported improved operating statistics in May. Preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) show that container throughput rose by 1.6% year-on-year to 2.67 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in May, the highest recorded since the 2.73 million TEUs booked in March last year.
All key port indicators rose during the month. Cargo throughput rose by 7.7% year-on-year to 52.26 million tonnes, while bunker sales jumped 17.7% year-on-year to 4.36 million tonnes.
Vessel arrivals rose 10.4% to 230.32 million gross tonnes, while vessel arrivals increased 6.2% to 11,708 ships.
