Chart of the Day: How fertile is Singapore?

The number of total live-births increased to 39,654 in 2011.

The Department of Statistics reported:

The number of total live-births rebounded and increased by 4.4 per cent from 37,967 in 2010 to 39,654 in 2011. The number of resident births (i.e. births with at least one parent who is a Singapore citizen or permanent resident) also rose by 3.0 per cent from 35,129 in 2010 to 36,178 in 2011. Singapore’s resident total fertility rate (TFR) increased slightly from 1.15 births per female in 2010 to 1.20 births per female in 2011.
