Daily Briefing: ComfortDelGro drivers to help deliver RedMart groceries; 2C2P sets up VC arm in SEA payment firms

ComfortDelGro taxi drivers will soon help to deliver RedMart groceries as demand for delivery services rises amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.

The drivers will start the delivery job by the end of April, after undergoing training provided by RedMart, owned by e-commerce giant Lazada.

More than 1,000 drivers from the taxi company have indicated their interest in the role, said ComfortDelGro and Lazada in a media release.

RedMart started experiencing a “growing surge of orders” in February. Delivery slots will be assigned based on location, with specific days and times for each address.

Eva Weber will lead the 2C2P.VC, headquartered in Singapore. Weber recently joined 2C2P’s management team as Investment Director, bringing in more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry.

The venture arm will primarily focus on strategic partnerships and investments in complementary businesses that offer opportunities for vertical integration and geographic expansion.

2C2P helps businesses accept payments from millions of customers around the world on its omni-channel platform, operating across Southeast Asia, North Asia, the US, and Europe.

foodpanda’s co-founders Pawel Netreba and Patrick Linden, as well as the latter’s brother Rene Linden, have launched the iSaveSG platform to help Singapore’s businesses survive the COVID-19 crisis.

iSaveSG is a non-profit, online platform that allows customers to support businesses financially by buying offers/gift cards from restaurants, bars, cafés and boutiques.

The initiative is completely free for both merchants and users. It will also help merchants market their lock-down-related offers, and users can find the best deals on a single platform.

The team also has plans to launch a community forum on the platform and will expand the initiative to Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries soon.
