Daily Briefing: NEA rolls out $1.76m food waste fund; Fund managers may now tap into stay-at-home talent

And Mustafa Centre reopens supermarket after month-long closure.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) launched a $1.76m food waste fund, according to an announcement. The fund aims to help organisations subsidise the cost of installing food waste treatment solutions.

It will cover the capital cost of waste treatment systems, accompanying equipment, and improvements to existing infrastructure capped at $100,000 per applicant.

Companies, non-profit organisations, and condominium management bodies can apply between 18 May 2020 and 28 February 2021.

The fund will be disbursed in two stages with the first half paid out once the system is installed and running.

Asset managers may start tapping into stay-at-home talent, according to the Investment Management Association of Singapore.

Previously untapped talent pools that require work-from-home models could have a greater shot at getting hired. This could include working parents and stay-at-home moms, and could expand to include other caregivers.

Asset managers have turned to technology including video conferencing tools, such as Zoom and Webex, as well as traditional calls to host webinars, conduct business, and win new clients.

Firms such as JPMorgan Chase & Co. have said some employees could be asked to work from home more permanently even after the pandemic is over.

Megamall Mustafa Centre reopened its supermarket on 6 May, more than a month after it was closed, according to an announcement.

All other sections of the mall, which sells a range of products from clothes, to shoes and electronics, will remain shut as part of measures taken during the circuit breaker period.

The reopening was after the management received approval from the authorities to reopen the supermarket portion of the mall following checks.

A maximum of 325 people will be allowed in the supermarket at any one time. The management has also put in place other safe-distancing measures, such as tape on the ground to space customers apart at cashiers.
