DPM Wong vows government will always be ‘pro-growth’ in economy
Economic competitiveness is one of the key phases in Singapore.
The global economy may be looking dim, but Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong said they will keep striving to make Singapore’s economy competitive.
“We will continue to sustain real income growth for the middle. This is why economic growth is non-negotiable for us. We already know that our growth rates will gradually come down as our labour force expands more slowly and becomes older, but growth remains essential,” Wong said at the Parliament’s new session.
He also vowed that the government will always be pro-growth and pro-inclusive so as to not sacrifice jobs and social support.
Here are key shifts that Wong presented:
- A new approach on skills
- A new definition of success
- A new approach for social support
- A new approach to caring for our seniors
- And a renewed commitment to one another — less about “I” and “me”, more about “us” and “we”.
“If we succeed in effecting these shifts, we can secure a stronger social compact – and not just amongst ourselves, but between this generation and future generations to come,” Wong declared.
