Government to assist 40,000 cleaners with training, wage assistance
Cleaners will receive sustained wage increases for a six-year period starting July 2023.
The government is set to grant the recommendations of the Tripartite Cluster of Cleaners (TCC) for a scheduled six-year schedule of sustained wage increases and mandatory training requirements.
The move will benefit approximately 40,000 resident cleaners employed by over 1,500 cleaning businesses.
The wage increases are scheduled from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2029, and is set to bring the wages of cleaners closer to that of a median wage worker.
Starting December 31, 2022, all licensed cleaning businesses have to follow the mandatory training requirement under the Skills Framework for Environmental Services. Businesses should ensure that workers have attained at least one Workplace Safety and Health related module and another core module endorsed by the TCC.
The government will review these training requirements beyond 2025.
