On National Day, PM Lee touts 4 government initiatives amidst inflation pinch
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said they are focusing on housing, government integrity, and others.
Like the rest of the world, Singapore has been bearing the brunt of rising prices. But Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong assured residents that the government will keep pushing for initiatives to weather the macroeconomic woes.
One way of doing this is to keep the population unified through a government with integrity. Lee vowed that the government will be free from corrupt systems and unlawful acts.
“We will maintain our high standards of honesty, integrity, and propriety. Singaporeans have come to expect this of us, and so have our international partners,” he further explained.
Another initiative is making Singapore’s housing affordable. Lee revealed that they built new HDB flats and revamped public spaces.
The third government approach is improving HDB estates and flats to benefit Singapore’s ageing population, said Lee.
“For example, to help seniors find their way around more easily, we will install more visible signages and designs. To make their commuting safer and more comfortable, we will build more pedestrian-friendly zones and rest points,” said Lee.
He also discussed the Forward Singapore agenda, which helps Singaporeans succeed, take care of vulnerable groups, and how to deepen solidarity in the population.
