Resorts World, NUS set up Living Laboratory for biodiversity, decarbonisation research
RWS committed S$10m to the project.
Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) partnered to set up a Living Laboratory to research biodiversity conservation and decarbonisation.
RWS committed S$10m to support the five-year applied research partnership for the Laboratory and its research which focuses on biodiversity contribution and education and decarbonisation and nature-based solutions, they said in a joint statement.
The RWS-NUS Living Laboratory aims to contribute to the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and the Sentosa Development Corporation’s plans to turn the island into a “carbon-neutral destination” by 2030.
The partnership will also aid the country’s tourism economy, environmental education and sustainability efforts to achieve sustainable tourism.
Resorts World Sentosa CEO Tan Hee Teck said the Living Laboratory signifies their commitment to making RWS a sustainable destination.
“At the same time, the partnership will set the foundation for RWS to meet emerging trends where consumers are prioritising sustainability and unique engaging experiences when they travel,” he said.
Tan added that the Singapore Oceanarium to be built will feature marine education, conservation, and research.
NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye, meanwhile, said he is confident that the collaboration for the Living Laboratory “will co-create many innovative and transformative research outcomes that will enhance biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability, and decarbonisation.
