Singapore and Germany have agreed to work towards upgrading their relations into a strategic partnership.
In a meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying cooperation in existing and emerging areas.
Both leaders also reviewed Singapore and Germany’s long-standing and multifaceted bilateral ties.
In addition, Wong and Scholz exchanged views on regional and international issues.
Meanwhile, Wong met with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on April 8 to discuss ways to enhance cooperation after reaffirming the partnership between the two countries.
The two leaders discussed how Singapore and Germany could navigate an increasingly complicated world through a common worldview on multilateralism and rules-based world order.
Wong also had the time to discuss with Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck the countries’ growing economic relations and opportunities to reinforce economic ties between ASEAN and the EU.
