
SGX trade volumes plunged 38% further to $23.4b in May
Securities, derivatives record amazing declines.
Singapore Exchange reported Wednesday that the total value of securities traded in May was $23.4 billion, down 38% year on year and down 9% month on month.
There were only 2 IPOs in May this year, which together raised $16.8 million. In May 2013, there were 4 IPOs raising $1.8 billion.
On the other hand, derivatives volume declined to 8.1 million contracts, down 26% year on year and down 4% month on month. Total open interest as at end-May was 3.3 million contracts, down 8% from a year earlier.
Only the commodities volume grew in May, a bright spot for a lackluster month that had an daily average traded value of $1.7b, down from $1.23b in April .
