
Singapore’s manufacturing output up 3.3% in July: EDB
It declined 2.2% excluding biomedical manufacturing.
Data released today by the Economic Development Board (EDB) revealed that the country’s manufacturing output grew 3.3% in July, but decreased 2.2% when biomedical manufacturing is excluded.
The biomedical manufacturing cluster’s output increased 28.5% year-on-year in July, led by robust export demand for medical instruments and supplies.
However, the general manufacturing industries cluster’s output fell 5.9% yoy, with all segments registering declines. The food, beverages & tobacco segment fell 1.8% with lower output in dairy products. The miscellaneous industries segment contracted 7.7% due to lower demand for construction related products such as concrete & cement products and structural metal components.
The output of the electronics cluster also fell 2.9%, in spite of growth in the other electronic modules & components and computer peripherals segments.
Output of the transport engineering cluster fell 9.9% year-on-year last month, led by a decline 16.2% decline in the aerospace segment. The marine & offshore engineering segment also fell 9.0% on the back of lower contributions from rig building and ship repair jobs.
The chemicals cluster’s output rose 9.2% yoy, while output of the precision engineering cluster also grew 4.4%.
