
Singapore’s population grows to 5.18m
This is a 2.1% increase from 2010 due to increased number of citizens and non-residents.
According to the Population Trends 2011 report by the Department of Statistics, Singapore’s total population stood at 5.18 million as at end-June 2011.
The report said, “There were 3.79 million Singapore residents, comprising 3.26 million Singapore citizens and 0.53 million permanent residents, and 1.39 million non-resident foreigners.”
The number of Singapore citizens grew by 0.8% between 2010 and 2011, according to the report. It said, “Growth in the number of non-residents was 6.9% in 2011, down from the peaks of 15% in 2007 and 19% in 2008.”
Meanwhile the number of permanent residents declined by 1.7%, after growing 1.5% in 2010 and at least 6 % each year between 2005 and 2009.
