After expanding in Singapore, Spencer Ogden launched a strategic and fun mobile app

Billing itself as one of the first mobile apps developed by a recruitment company.

Spencer Ogden, a global energy recruiter company, released a mobile application called SO Play. SO Play or Spencer Ogden Play is a free gaming app which gives players the chance to take control of planes, helicopters, boats and trucks, navigating around energy projects across the world with the aim of maximizing output by delivering manpower and equipment.

According to David Spencer-Percival, CEO of Spencer Ogden, SO Play is one of the first of its kind to be developed by a recruitment company, and it’s been conceptualised very carefully to reflect Spencer Ogden’s brand while creating an engaging game for the end-user.

David further explained that Spencer Ogden has a database of almost half a million candidates who travel the world between projects and generally operate within a tight community of energy professionals, so they wanted to develop a fun and engaging game with a competitive nature that also ties in with their involvement in the energy sector.

Though they believe the company has developed a fun app which would help educate people on the breadth of the energy industry, they also want to highlight all the career opportunities that it offers.

According to David, the idea behind SO Play started on the back of the success of the Spencer Ogden jobs app in 2013. They felt there was more potential within the mobile space that the recruitment industry, and to some extent the wider energy industry, was not exploring. They also thought that developing the game will help them reach a wider audience and engage with passive candidates in the energy market.

Since 2011, Spencer Ogden has been collaborating with KeyApps to deliver native mobile application technology exclusively for recruitment agencies. David said that with expert understanding of both the sales and recruitment industries, KeyApps’s sole focus is helping agencies connect with new professionals as well as building connections with existing clients and candidates via advanced, evolving and user-friendly apps like SO Play.

“We are already looking ahead and we are committed to keeping the app up-to-date and engaging. We will add more levels, create prize winning competitions and include more in game power ups to keep gamers active in the future,” said David.
