Energy efficiency standard implemented for data centres
The Singapore Standard for Green Data Centres - Energy and Environmental Management Systems has been launche to help data centres manage energy use and cost.
It is a certifiable management system that will help data centres enhance competitiveness.
This is an inititative of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, SPRING Singapore and the IT Standards Committee.
According to IDA and SPRING, the standard can help measure, track and identify aspects of energy efficiency. It is modeled against international management systems.
It is estimated that the 10 data centres here consume enough energy for 130,000 households - more than 10% of total home energy in Singapore. About 70% of energy consumption is for cooling.
Energy consumption and thus overall operating cost is likely to grow in tandem with the industry, which is set to grow another 50%.
