
Consumers can soon choose their power supplier if EMA's plans continue
The Energy Market of Singapore is working towards opening up the entire electricity market to competition.
This move will allow all consumers can purchase electivity directly from different suppliers offering a range of retail packages.
One of Singapore's key strategies to ensure access to reliable and competitively-priced electricity is to foster effective competition, said Chan Lai Fung, Chairman, EMA.
Fung also highlighted Singapore's pilot project for an Intelligent Energy System as a first step towards developing a smarter grid for Singapore.
Tan Sri Leo Moggie, Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad, underscored the critical role of the electricity industry in sustaining economic growth and the electricity industry's essential role for a country's socio-economic development. He also highlighted that the economic development is directly associated with the electrification rate.
