General Electric invests $60m in gas turbine repair centre in Singapore

The centre will start repairing components in 2021.

US-based conglomerate General Electric (GE) will invest up to $60m over 10 years to transform its Global Repair Service Center in Singapore into HA Repair Engineering and Development Center for repairs of HA gas turbines, according to a press release.

With support from the Singapore Economic Development Board, the centre will include a research and development (R&D) centre for developing HA repair capabilities and the repair of high-tech components like HA nozzles and blades.

The centre will begin repairing components in 2021 and is expected to create 160 jobs in engineering and repairs.

“The quality of talent, belief in our team and the work they are doing here, and our strong partnership and trust with the government and EDB are key reasons we chose Singapore for this investment,” said GE Gas Power CEO Scott Strazik.

The current service centre overhauls gas turbine blades, rotors and aeroderivative engine components, and uses robotic laser cladding, adaptive CNC machining, robotic coating and polishing and inspection technologies. The site currently employs about 250 people.
