Sembcorp Industries signs MOU to deliver decarbonised hydrogen to SG

The MOU was also signed by Chiyoda Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation.

Sembcorp Industries announced today via a new release that they have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deliver decarbonised hydrogen into Singapore.

Included in the partnership are Chiyoda Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation.

The agreement revolves around Chiyoda’s SPERA Hydrogen and is part of the Japanese government’s Asia Energy Transition Initiative. This aims to support sustainable economic growth and carbon neutrality in Asia. Under this, Japan will support Singapore’s energy transition through technology developed by Japanese companies.

The SPERA Hydrogen technology releases hydrogen from Methylcyclohexane (MCH1). This is a type of liquid organic hydrogen carrier that is known for its safety and compatibility with existing infrastructure.

Sembcorp Industries’ role in the partnership is to perform user tests via its domestic power generation assets, supply carbon-neutral hydrogen to customers and support growth of demand for the hydrogen segment in Singapore.
