Sembmarine delivers world’s first 8th-gen drillship to Transocean subsidiary
More than 200 crewmen can fit in the drillship.
Sembcorp Marine Limited delivered the Deepwater Atlas, world’s first eighth generation drillship, which it built and designed for US firm, Transocean’s subsidiary, Triton Atlas GmBH.
Deepwater Atlas, first of two ultra-deepwater drillships based on Jurong Espadon 3T design, “features three-million pound hook-load hosting capacity.”
“It also sets a new frontier for next generation drillships with its ability to accommodate well control systems for 20,000 psi (pounds per square inch) drilling and completion operations,” Sembcorp Marine said in a statement.

It can also operate at 12,000 feet water depth and drill to depths of 40,000 feet.
About 220 crewmen can be accommodated in the drillship, which is also equipped to ramp up fuel consumption and cut emissions.
