SembMarine, GE Renewable Energy partner on wind farm project
Early design works for the project began in July 2020.
Sembcorp Marine (SembMarine) and GE Renewable Energy’s Grid Solutions have clinched a contract worth $1.12b from RWE Renewables to supply the high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical transmission system for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm in the UK.
The parties began early design works for the project in July 2020, after being chosen as the preferred suppliers of the HVDC electrical transmission system.
Sofia Offshore Wind Farm will span an area of 593 square kilometres, and will have a capacity of 1.4 GW, which is expected to power around 1.2 million UK households with clean and renewable energy.
The contract work scope comprises the design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of the offshore converter platform (OCP) and the onshore converter station, including all ancillary equipment.
“As we move from early design work to the next phase of this groundbreaking project, we are committed to drive design, engineering and operational excellence and deep value creation for our customer,” SembMarine Offshore Platforms head Samuel Wong said.
Construction of the OCP will start this year with delivery and installation at the wind farm site expected in 2023.
