ST Telemedia GDC replaces conventional diesel with vegetable oil to power data centres
50,000 litres were initially deployed.
ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) deployed Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to its data centres in Singapore, as a renewable fuel replacing conventional diesel for backup generators.
The company initially deployed 50,000 litres and is the first data centre operator in Singapore to deploy HVO.
HVO is a renewable diesel alternative produced from waste fats and vegetable oils. It is compatible with most existing diesel engines without modification. Also, it significantly reduces carbon emissions, which in turn reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The company sources HVO from fuel supplier Neste, who has issued Proof of Sustainability that HVO reduces GHG emissions by up to 90% over its lifecycle, compared to fossil diesel.
