Alipay eyes entering Singapore

It will first target Chinese citizens in the Lion City.

Chinese mobile payment provider Alipay is looking to offer its payment platform soon to Singapore users.

According to RHB, the subsidiary of Alibaba's financial arm will expand operations firstly by targeting tourists from China, Chinese citizens in the country, and others with a Chinese banking account.

The company also signed a deal with CCPay to increase the number of Alipay acceptance points from the 20,000 points it already has. About 17,000 are currently for taxis.

Alipay said a local partner like CCPay will allow them to be more sensitive to conditions on the ground and engage businesses and consumers in Singapore.
