Here are 2 areas of growth UOB must focus on

Overseas profit contribution jumped to 35%.

According to Nomura, there are 2 key areas of growth. First is the rising intra regional (covering the key markets of Singapore, Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Thailand) flows in its wholesale business.

The bank has been building its expertise in several key industries such as real estate, transport/logistics, oil & gas, agribusiness and telcos.

Here's more from Nomura:

Overseas wholesale profit contribution has increased to 36% in 2012 from 30% in 2010 and is expected to rise to 50% by 2015.

Second is wealth management. Unlike its peers, UOB focuses on the mass affluent market with investible assets of between SGD350K-2mn.

The customer base has expanded to 155K from 100K in 2010 from the bank’s 49 wealth management centres across the region.

The current AUM is SGD70bn and is targeted to grow to SGD100bn by 2015.
