
Majority of Singaporeans opt for contactless payments: survey
The coronavirus brought concerns about cash usage in the Lion City.
Almost nine in 10 (89%) Singaporeans are increasingly using tap-and-go payment methods amidst the pandemic to reduce contact with people and surfaces, according to a Mastercard consumer poll.
COVID-19 has brought concerns about cash usage in the Lion City and led to people going contactless due to safety reasons, with nearly eight in 10 (76%) saying that they prefer to shop at stores that offer cashless methods.
An overwhelming 81% opined that contactless is the cleaner way to pay.
Singapore appears ready to embrace a contactless future, with 76% saying it is now their preferred option. Less than half (48%) have been using cash since the pandemic began, and 77% stated they will remain contactless even after the pandemic is over.
