SingTel offers first mobile remittance service for Indonesians
Operations began last Sunday.
mRemit, SingTel’s mobile remittance service, gained 25,000 users in Singapore when it launched in 2012 to service Filipinos. Now, the company is partnering with more than 80 Indonesian banks to cater to almost 180,000 Indonesians living in Singapore.
According to a release by SingTel, mRemit allows customers to save time and energy by initiating transfers at any time through their mobile phones, a convenience that the company deems particularly useful for workers who have very few days off or work irregular hours. The company claims that recipients will have access to transferred funds within three minutes of a successful transaction.
Top Indonesian banks like Bank Danamon, Bank Negara Indonesia and Bank Mandiri have already partnered with SingTel. As a launch promotion, fees for mobile remittance transactions to Indonesia will be waived until 31 August 2014.
mRemit is available to subscribers of all mobile networks, and is compatible with both smartphones and feature phones.
