Check out Frunatic restaurant's raw food philosophy
Eat no-cook items in a fast-food fashion.
Located at the Star Vista Shopping Mall, Frunatic is a fast-food style restaurant that serves fresh raw fruits in different styles and sizes.
Taking the "raw food philosophy" by heart, Frunatic highlights freshly squeezed juices, alkaline water and other fruit-based no-cook items to customers who want easy access to healthy food options. This 100-seater restaurant also takes 'healthy living' to the next level by having nutritionists stationed on-site giving customers a chance to get meal advices.
Frunatics opened its doors to Singaporean diners last March with the aim of making raw natural whole foods just within reach. Frunatics takes note of these five methods in preparing its foods: masticating-style juicing, dehydration, alkaline water, prepared a la minute, and the right temperature. To compliment its healthy style of serving dishes, Frunatic also features white interior accentuated by overstuffed armchairs, cushioned dining chairs, and potted plants.
Singapore Business Review caught up with Frunatic's director Jason Fong to know more about the inspiration behind the restaurant.
SBR: What motivated you to open this restaurant in Singapore?
I found and still find that Singaporeans – though perhaps it is just people in general – tend to push their body to the limits and become concerned only when they find that they have a tangible or visible challenge to their health. Only then do they push themselves to do whatever it takes to resolve it, but by that time, it is too late.
I know this because I also had the same attitude, and I didn’t care as much about preventive health measures as I should have.
So I think you can say that at its most basic, the motivation behind my opening of the restaurant is as simple as this: I truly believe in the healing properties of raw natural whole foods, and how they should be an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. I opened Frunatic because I wanted to share the importance of including fruits and vegetables in their raw natural state, in their healing state in a healthy diet.
SBR: What can Singaporeans expect from your restaurant that they can't find anywhere else?
Raw natural foods. In Frunatic, we aim to always offer food that is as unprocessed as possible so that the food we offer retains the optimal nutritional level.
Even our preparation process focuses on this: we only prepare the food and juices we offer upon order. We do not pre-cut and leave the fruit and vegetables standing around for hours.
I also would like to note that we are the first fast-food restaurant that serves natural raw foods. My vision of Frunatic is that it should be a very accessible restaurant in all ways, not simply location-wise. We may serve whole natural raw foods but we've gone with a simple and, we hope, fun self-service style and a fun colourful menu. We are probably the first fast food concept of our kind! I like to say that we are a "fast-fruit restaurant".
How does the interior of the restaurant complement with your menu? What do you hope to achieve with the atmosphere inside the restaurant?
To complement Frunatic’s emphasis on natural whole foods and fruits and vegetables, we’ve created a clean relaxed look that is still fun. And like our menu, we want to welcome everyone! The colour white runs thematically throughout the indoor and outdoor areas, and bright splashes of colour brighten and warm up the space, adding energy and warmth.
A secondary garden theme enlivens the outdoor space and we’ve added a small children’s corner, rich with colour and toys!
SBR: What can you tell us about this restaurant that is exclusively for SBR's editorial coverage?
Frunatic is not about encouraging people to replace their diets with a raw food diet, but incorporating raw foods into their diet and better yet, to create a lifestyle in which they can sustain a habit of eating raw foods. To make it easier for our clients to do this, we actually created a new facet to our business: we are now the authorised distributors for many of the machines we use to create our food.
For customers who enjoy our food, our dehydrated snacks, and the slow-pressed juices that we retail, they can purchase the machines we use ourselves in our very own kitchen. These machines are actually top of the line in their category, and include the Omega slow juicers which are also highly recommended by Dr. Oz, the Excalibur dehydrators and the Chanson water ionisers.
By buying these machines, our customers can enjoy the raw dehydrated food and slow-pressed juices at home too!
Frunatic is open from Mondays to Thursdays (11am-9pm); Fridays and saturdays )11am-10pm; and Sundays (10am-10pm).
