Nowadays, there are a lot of eateries vying to be more than what they are, combining two kinds food shop in one like a cafe cum restaurant, a cafe cum bar, etc. Now, here comes SELA, a modern European restaurant that wants to bring the traditional restaurant eating back in the days.
Opened on July 2014, SELA boasts of combining Asian ingredients with European cooking style in their food offerings. The restaurant also promises to keep things ‘refreshing’ so they are changing their lunch menu weekly, while Tapas changes fortnightly, and the dinner ala carte menu changes on a quarterly basis.
According to its founder, Leonard Chan, they believe in simplicity and it shows in their food- “the food speaks for itself.”
The restaurant has a minimalist decor to keep their customers’ focus on the food. They even have a glass wall looking into the kitchen, so that their diners are able to see how their food is being prepared or even interact with the head chef.
Leonard said that in the beginning, they only wanted to create a unique dining experience and they knew that good food gets people together to engage in meaningful conversations. That’s when the concept of setup of the restaurant while having an identified Head Chef with them to craft the menu..
But before SELA, Leonard had spent 16 years in the finance sector, holding a senior position responsible for the SEA/Korea region. In the last 2 years, he decided to embark in the path of entrepreneurship and have since been involved in the hospitality scene.
Lastly, SELA being ‘blessed’ in terms of staffing resources, Leonard promises to continue to bring to the diners new and exciting dishes, together with their chefs.
