
F&B receipts fell 1.3% in May
Restaurants continued to post the worst m-o-m performance among all sub-sectors.
Singaporeans dined and ordered out less again in May with three out of the four sub-sectors posting m-o-m index contractions: Restaurants (-3.1%), Food Caterers (-1.5%) and Fast Food Outlets (-0.2%).
Only other eating places such as cafes and canteens posted a m-o-m index growth at 0.3%, based on new data from Statistics SIngapore.

Month-on-Month Change (Seasonally Adjusted). After seasonal adjustment, restaurants recorded a 3.1% decrease in receipts in May 2012 over April 2012 (Table 2). Receipts of food caterers and fast food outlets declined 1.5% and 0.2% respectively compared to the previous month.
On the other hand, turnover of other eating places (such as cafes and canteens) increased 0.3% over the same period.
Year-on-Year Change. Compared to May 2011, food caterers recorded a 9.4% increase in receipts in May 2012. Turnover of other eating places and restaurants also rose 5.1% and 3.9% respectively. On the other hand, turnover of fast food outlets decreased 1.5% in May 2012 over May 2011.
