Deliveroo Singapore to incentivise riders switching to e-bikes
Riders can receive an additional $2-$500 per delivery.
Deliveroo Singapore has begun the pilot implementation of a scheme which incentivises riders who will upgrade their vehicle to power-assisted bicycles.
Called the Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) Upgrade Promotion and Incentive Scheme, the initiative aims to help increase earnings of drivers by “empowering them to complete more orders safely.
Under the program, delivery riders who will switch to Land Transport Authority (LTA)-compliant PAB models from MOBOT and FALCON PEV will receive an additional $2 per delivery, up to a cap of up to $500.
Exclusive discounts and freebies will also be given to participating riders.
Over 200 Deliveroo riders were invited to be part of the pilot implementation, and among them was Ong Zhi Hao who has been using a non-powered bicycle for delivery since 2018.
“[I] did not have the financial means to purchase it on my own. Now, with my savings coupled with Deliveroo’s help, I am glad to be able to upgrade to a PAB to deliver more orders to customers and boost my income in a safe manner,” Ong said.
Aside from improving their rider’s quality of life, the food delivery company said the scheme was also aimed at reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
“The programme...aligns with the government’s push towards a car-lite society, part of The Singapore Green Plan 2030. We hope to expand the initiative to do more for the environment and broaden our support for additional riders if the pilot goes well,” Sarah Tan, general manager of Deliveroo Singapore, said.
The $100,000 pilot initiative is funded by the food delivery company’s global community fund.
