2 in 10 residents doubtful that Singapore will get through the haze
80% are gravely concerned.
According to a snap poll conducted by REACH, more than eight in 10 people who took part in a REACH poll expressed concern about the haze, but were confident that Singapore will get through the haze situation. There is also very high public awareness on safety precautions to be taken, and available sources of information related to the haze situation.
The snap poll was conducted through telephone interviews with 939 randomly selected Singapore residents (aged 15 years and above). The margin of error is 3.2% at 95% confidence level.
79.6% of respondents indicated that they were concerned about the haze situation while 84.4% of respondents were confident that Singapore will get through the haze situation.
97.3% were aware of where to obtain the necessary information, with 75.8% looking to mainstream media and 45.0% accessing NEA’s website or social media platforms. Also, 67.1% were aware of the safety precautions that they should take depending on the 24 hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings.
On the poll results, REACH Chairman Dr Amy Khor said, “The poll results show understandably Singaporeans’ anxiety over the haze and its impact on our health and well-being, with close to 80% of survey respondents expressing concern over the haze. But at the same time, it also clearly reflects the resilience of Singaporeans and their confidence that Singapore will get through the haze situation with some 84% expressing confidence. This is an encouraging indication of our society’s ability to persevere amidst difficult situations, to close ranks to tackle major challenges and keep Singapore going. I urge Singaporeans to look out for one another, especially those who are in need as the Government consolidates efforts to ensure that Singapore is haze ready.”
