Peace of mind for life: Long-awaited MediShield policy upgrades unveiled
Government hails new rules.
The MediShield Life Review Committee has released its recommendations to improve MediShield Life, a move that was warmly welcomed by the government and other sectors.
The MLRC’s recommendations are aimed at enabling all Singaporeans to benefit from better protection against large medical bills, for life.
Among the MLRC’s proposed changes is the removal of the lifetime claim limit of $300,000. Another is to lower co-insurance rates from the current range of 10-20% to 3-10%.
Other recommendations included increasing the policy year claim limit by 40% from $70,000 to $100,000, and to substantially increase the claim limits for outpatient cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments, to better cover the cost of subsidized cancer treatment.
“The Government welcomes the latest update by the MediShield Life Review Committee (MLRC) on MediShield Life benefit features, and thanks the MLRC for their efforts in reviewing the scheme. The Ministry of Health (MOH) is supportive of the MLRC’s proposals to raise claim limits and lower co-insurance, especially for the largest bills. These enhancements will provide all Singaporeans with peace of mind against large healthcare bills for life,” said the MOH in a statement released Thursday.
