Singapore threatened by the 'worst dengue situation' since 2005
Dengue cases already hit 5,928.
According to a release by the National Environment Agency (NEA), as of 4 May 2013, the total number of dengue cases is 5,928, which is already some 28% more than the total number of cases for the whole year of 2012, at 4,632. In what may be the worst dengue situation since 2005, the most effective way to fight against dengue is to prevent mosquito breeding by remaining vigilant and ensuring that there is no stagnant water in the house and our surroundings.
As part of the district’s step up efforts to prevent mosquito breeding, NEA and Southwest DC are going beyond households to reach out to all community gardens within our district to educate our gardeners to keep their gardens mozzie-free. As part of this initiative, they are distributing the specially produced “Operation Mozzie-Free Garden Checklist” and toolkit to our community gardeners.
"The South West Community Development Council and the National Environment Agency (South West Regional Office) will rope in the efforts of community gardeners, students, grassroots leaders and residents as part of our holistic Operation Mozzie-Free effort. It is important that we, as a community, continue to stay vigilant in carrying on with the good dengue prevention practices we have adopted as well as step up on areas that need improvements.” said Mayor Khor.
